52. IChO - Remote Access Exam
Due to COVID 19, the 52nd IChO was carried out as a "Remote Access Exam" - quite successful for Austria: 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
As every year, it was a tough competition: 235 students from 60 nations competed in a five-hour theoretical task. The lack of a practical exam was a painful sacrifice - not only for the sake of chemistry, but also because, thanks to our course system, Austrian students usually perform quite well in this competition.
Nevertheless, each member of the Austrian team won a medal: Magdalena Lederbauer (Vienna/Lower Austria) and Maximilian Spitaler (Lower Austria) made silver medals, Maciej Swiatek (Vienna) and Lukas Rost (Lower Austria) reached bronze medals..
The fact that alternative forms for these competitions, which are so important to young people, were established in a short time is thanks to the joint efforts of pupils, former participants and teachers.
